- Jan 24, 2015 I put in a new hard drive and put Yosemite on it, and of course it won’t run iMovie 6 HD. So I put the old G5 hard drive in the Mac Pro – it was running on Leopard (10.5). I can boot the Mac Pro from that drive, and run my iMovie 6 HD fine.

All the GoPro cameras record .MP4 files (the container), and the files are compressed using the h.264 codec. But it seems that iMovie (including iMovie ’11) does not like the way. How to convert GoPro videos to edit in iMovie
Step 1. Add Gopro MP4 video files
Install and launch the GoPro MP4 to iMovie converter and load source MP4 clips to it.
Step 2. Choose output format
Hit the “Format” bar and select iMovie and Final Cut Express > Apple InterMediate Codec(*.mov) as output format on the drop-down menu.
Step 3. Video, Audio Settings
In case the default settings do not fit your requirement, you can click “Settings” button and enter “Profile Settings” panel to adjust video size, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channels. 1920*1080 video size and 30fps frame rate are recommended to you.
Step 4. Start GoPro to iMovie Conversion

If you want to edit GoPro video in Final Cut Pro X or FCP 7/6, you just need to choose the “Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)” as output format in the second step; For Avid Media Composer, choose “Avid Media Composer > Avid DNxHD(*.mov)” as output; For Adobe Premiere Pro or Vegas Pro, choose Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas> MPEG-2(*.mpg) as output.
