What is Mac OS X Server 10.4.7 (Tiger)?

Mac OS X Tiger Server is a server-focussed release of Tiger with extra tools and applications added to allow it to provide services to Mac clients. This is a universal binary release of Tiger Server so will work with compatible Macs using both PowerPC and Intel processors.

The official minimum requirements for this software are:

  • A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor running at 300 MHz or faster
  • Built-in FireWire
  • At least 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM, 128 MB can run it unofficially though (512 MB recommended)
  • At least 3 GB of available hard disk space; 4 GB of disk space including the Xcode 2 Tools, 2 GB for the minimal install
  • DVD-ROM drive

Note: As this is a universal binary release of OS X Server, any Intel Mac capable of running Tiger will also be compatible with Tiger Server.
